SUMMARY:Science Talk: Who & What has Washed Ashore\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:Beach response stories from Noyo Center Stranding Coordinator\, Sarah Grimes Each year\, Sarah spends hundreds of hours walking the beaches of the Mendocino Coast responding to reports of dead stranded marine mammals She works under a collaborative agreement with the California Academy of Sciences as part of the West Coast Marine Mammal Stranding Network. The data she collects provides critical information about the health of our local coastline. Animals that wash ashore are the canaries so to speak. Sarah and the Beach Response volunteers are\, in many ways\, on the frontlines of gathering the pieces of the puzzle we need to help us understand what is happening in our oceans. The work can be challenging and is so meaningful. Join Sarah for an evening of stories\, and learn about ways you too can participate in the Beach Response Program (trainings coming soon!).
